iphone and the penguin
i’ve been needing a pda. just cant find any that i like. of course, i can only use ones with windows. i need to safe files, do my email and scheduling, load some apps. play my music. ive been eyeing on an htc. small and slim enough, since iphone is kinda too much to spend for. that is until i saw it in tv. maxis bringing iphone in!
after awhile, i called up maxis and find out that i can get one without having to make the advance payment.
went to maxis center and actually walked away with a free iphone!
it was only later i realized that i was in trouble. im a linux user see. fedora to be exact. seems like linux dont support current iphone firmware.
its the evil genius conspiracy!
did a search and there were reports that itunes 8.0 worked with wine. i tried, but it didnt work for me. i was thinking of repartitioning my hard drive and do a dual boot. then i remembered. virtualize!
im too lazy to recompile a kernel. all i want is to put songs in my iphone. tried a few. crashed. hanged. cant connect. then, i remembered sun’s virtualbox.
installed it. then installed windows xp. then itunes. and after just a few tweakings, i got it to connect to my iphone. the file sharing didnt work, so i did a samba sharing on my linux, my virtual windows just connects to my linux sharing like a normal network. problem solved.
malaysia’s apps store account need a credit card. so i create a free ‘us’ account to enable me download free apps from apps store.
im just wonder the future of sun’s virtualbox since sun microsystem is going to be sold.
